- Made with dried beans and a variety of veggies, these Great Northern Slow Cooker Beans are delicious. This is a flexible recipe where the seasoning vegetables can quickly be changed. You may also make the beans with ham or bacon.
- The beans in the photo were baked in the slow cooker without being pre-soaked or cooked, and they turned out fine. Soak the beans overnight if you have difficulty making them soft. Alternatively, soak them rapidly (as directed on the bean package) and then boil them for a few minutes before applying them to the slow cooker. While many people believe that salt has little effect on bean tenderness, apply it at the end of the cooking process, after the beans have become tender.
