Servings 6
Ingredients
- Beef Filling:
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup chopped red bell pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard
- Sloppy Joe Sauce:
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- For Assembly:
- 4 to 6 large flour tortillas
- 1/2 cup prepared cheese sauce
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Season the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic salt, and dry mustard.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned beef and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking it apart, until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Add the onion and red and green bell peppers. Cook for about 2 minutes, until the vegetables begin to soften.
- Whisk the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic salt in a bowl. Pour over the beef and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Place a portion of the Sloppy Joe mixture in the center of each tortilla. Top with cheese sauce and shredded cheddar, then fold in the sides and roll tightly into a burrito.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a clean skillet over medium heat. Grill the burritos seam-side down for about 1 minute per side, until golden and crisp. Serve hot.
How to Keep Burritos from Opening
Do not overfill the tortillas, roll them tightly, and place them seam-side down in the skillet first. This seals the fold before you turn them.
