Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 6 slices thick Texas toast
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter divided
  • Powdered sugar for serving
  • Butter and warm maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  • Whisk the eggs, milk, flour, sugar, vanilla, salt, and cinnamon together until the batter is mostly smooth.
  • Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon butter. If the butter begins to smoke, reduce the heat.
  • Dip each slice of Texas toast in the batter for about 30 seconds per side. Let the excess batter drip back into the bowl.
  • Place the coated bread on the hot skillet and cook for 1 1/2–2 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Add more butter to the skillet as needed and repeat with the remaining bread.
  • Dust with powdered sugar and serve hot with butter and warm maple syrup.

French Toast Tip

Keep the griddle over medium heat so the bread cooks through before the exterior becomes too dark.
